Using a Bible with Preschoolers at Home

As parents and grandparents, it is great to begin with our preschoolers in using the Bible at home with them. Recently, we had a Preschool Celebration Sunday at our Church and presented each of our families with a Read to Me Bible. We want to begin as soon as possible letting our kids and grandkids see, feel, and hold the Bible.

The Read to Me Bible is a Bible for Preschoolers that can be used at church or home and is a complete Bible with the Old and New Testament, rather than a Bible Story book. (1) This Bible has a hard, durable cover that holds up well with younger kids. (2) Realistic Biblical pictures that reinforces for our concrete learners that the people in the Bible are/were real people and not fictional characters in a book. (3) On the back of each picture are age-appropriate Bible story summaries that you can use to tell the Bible Story to your children. For Babies-3’s, you can use the words in bold for a simpler way to tell the Bible Story.

Often, parents will comment that they put the Bible up because their preschoolers have torn a page. I encourage parents to use clear tape to repair the page and continue to allow their preschoolers to touch and engage with their Bible while teaching them how to handle it. Some parents feel more comfortable purchasing a second Bible if they received one for a special occasion so that the presented Bible is protected while also making a Bible available for their preschooler to learn how to use a Bible.

What do you do to teach your preschooler to use a Bible at home?
